Buttermilk Brownies
 
 
Ingredients:
 
Brownies:
 

¼ cup cocoa

1 cup hot water
¾ cup butter, softened
2-½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

2 cups sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten

½ cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts
 
 
Frosting:
 
5 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons milk
1-½ cups sugar
 
  • Combine cocoa and hot water.
  • Stir in butter.
  • Whisk together dry ingredients and stir into cocoa mixture.
  • Add eggs.
  • Beat in buttermilk, then vanilla.
  • Add nuts.
  • Spread on a greased jelly roll pan.
  • Bake at 375° F for 20 minutes.
  • For frosting, combine butter, milk and sugar in a saucepan.
  • Bring to boil over low heat, stirring constantly.
  • Boil for 30 seconds, remove from heat.
  • Add chocolate chips and stir until smooth and thickened.
  • Spread over brownies.
